3 Tips for Back to School Success
It’s Back to School time at The School of Arts and Enterprise! We are getting ready to welcome new and returning 6th-12th grade students back on campus. Are you ready to join us? Here are three tips to make your Back to School experience the best it can be!
Attend Orientation
Orientation Week at The SAE is July 30-August 2, from 2:00-6:00pm. Registered students have been assigned a day and time to visit campus to pick up their class schedules, ID card, and turn in any missing registration documents. You’ll also have time to walk through campus and get familiar with our facilities, so bring a friend or family member along! Wondering what time to show up?
Create Your Creative Space
Do you have a space in your home that is dedicated to your creativity? It doesn’t have to be complicated - a desk or shelf or simply a comfy chair. Find a space that works for you, and that you can work from. For homework, for sketching, for journaling your next big project. And don’t forget to decorate with a few items that inspire you - pictures, quotes, artwork, plants, whatever you want - this space is yours!
Center Yourself
Being a teen is stressful! From school and work pressures to navigating friendships and family, there’s a lot to balance in your life. Creating a mindfulness practice can help you navigate these challenges. Take some time each day to center yourself with an activity that takes you away from the push and pull of your life and focuses you on the moment. Here are a few ideas to get you started!
- Take 5 deep breaths with your eyes closed, just focused on your breathing. Try inhaling to a count of 5 and exhaling to a count of 7.
- Scrunch your shoulders up to your ears, then slowly count to three and release all that tension. Try it with your hands, arms, back - whatever muscle groups feel good to you.
- Create a daily journaling habit. Set aside a few minutes to “free write”, where you write whatever comes to mind without editing or censoring.
- Coloring is a great way to let your mind wander and recharge. Grab a coloring book or sketchbook and give it a go.
- Love music? Try listening to your favorite playlist without distractions. Close your eyes and listen to everything. You may be surprised at how good it makes you feel!
