What’s Your Major?
At The School of Arts and Enterprise (The SAE), we approach arts education in a totally different way than other public schools. We teach all the basics of math, English and science, tuition-free. But we also offer time and resources for students to devote themselves to rigorous study in one area: their “major”.
Middle School: Foundational Years
The SAE’s nationally award winning artistic curriculum is built on the foundation of 6th-8th grade learning. We believe that middle school is a perfect time to explore artistic interests and develop new skills, so when it comes time to declare a “major” in high school you’ll know what you’re passionate about. 6th-8th grade student artist experiences focus on nurturing creative expression, regardless of skill level, and include:
- The SAE Repertory Dance Company
- Emerging Instrumental Music Ensembles
- Broadway Musicals
- 6th Grade Specific Opportunities
- Art Exhibitions and Gallery Work
- Nationally Recognized Master Artist Series
- Industry Field Trips
- And more!
High School: Time to Concentrate
All students in grades 9-12 at The SAE select a 4-year course of study from 7 majors and 5 dual majors. Our majors program is a large part of student identity - it’s a cohort of peers and teachers who form a four-year academic “home” on campus. We offer block scheduling on a rotation to give our students time to finish homework and work on projects during the school day. Wednesday afternoons include options for extended rehearsal time for students who need it. After-school hours are reserved for tutoring, rehearsals and dual major course work.
Current majors and dual majors include:
- Department of Dance
- Dance Major
- Dual Major opportunity: Dance Education
- Dance Major
- Department of Design + Visual Arts
- Graphic Design Major
- Visual Art Major
- Dual Major opportunity: AMOCA Ceramic Workshop
- Photography Major
- Department of Music
- Instrumental Music Major
- Vocal Music Major
- Dual Major opportunity: Recording Technology
- Department of Theatre Arts
- Theatre Arts Major
- Dual Major opportunity: Live Event Management or Musical Theatre
