Questions and Answers about Attending The SAE

Who can enroll at The SAE?2025-10-14T15:11:23-07:00

The SAE is a Public Charter School and therefore open to students in grades 6-12. Students do not need to reside in Pomona. 60% of students are from Pomona and 40% commute to The SAE from over 35 different cities.

Is there a cost to attend The SAE?2024-12-20T11:39:26-08:00

No. The SAE is a public charter school and does not charge tuition. The SAE is committed to offering access to pre-professional level arts education at no cost to students. One of the core values of The SAE is to champion accessibility to the arts for everyone.

Do I have to audition or have a portfolio to attend The SAE?2025-10-14T15:12:00-07:00

No. There is no acceptance audition or previous experience required to attend The School of Arts + Enterprise.  Once at the school, student artists will find audition and selection opportunities for performance and exhibition work, consistent with a high quality arts school. Due to our small school size and nationally recognized Visual and Performing Arts Season student acceptance and opportunities are plentiful at The SAE.

Do I have to have previous Arts training?2025-10-14T15:12:38-07:00

No previous experience or artistic ability is required for attending The SAE. However, because The SAE approaches learning through projects in the arts and business, the innate “artist” in each student is supported—and becomes the vehicle for the student’s academic success.
Is The School of Arts and Enterprise (The SAE) a private school?2025-10-14T15:13:00-07:00

No. The SAE is a public charter school that is tuition-free and serves students in grades 6-12 that reside in California. Charter schools are public schools funded by the state but they enjoy more flexibility in how they run their schools, such as areas of interest, hiring, and curriculum management. Charter schools do not have to comply with boundary school rules and can admit any child residing in the state that meets the age requirements.

Can students enroll in a UC or CSU school from The SAE?2025-10-14T15:13:17-07:00

Absolutely! Ninety-six percent of The SAE’s students go on to the college or university of their choice.
Can I enroll in High School if I have not attended Middle School at The SAE?2025-10-14T15:13:33-07:00

Yes! We accept any student, at any grade level, as well as transfer students anytime during the school year.

What is the application deadline for the 2026-2027 school year?2025-10-08T11:57:46-07:00

Applications are accepted on a year round basis but ​The SAE’s early application deadline for 2026-2027 school year is Tuesday March 3, 2026 at 11:59pm.​​

Is there a lottery or waitlist for applicants?2025-10-08T11:50:59-07:00

Applications are accepted on a year round basis, but sometimes the number of applications received during the early application period warrants the need for a Lottery.

If needed, the Lottery date will take place Saturday, March 21, 2026​. If needed, subsequent waitlist lotteries will take place every second Monday of the month up until the start of school.

Applications​ received with a submission date after the specified deadline will not be placed in the​ early application​ lottery but are marked with the date and time of receipt and will be held in our system for subsequent lotteries. When needed, these subsequent lotteries are used to generate our waiting lists for grades that have reached capacity.

If needed, information on the viewing of each lottery will be made publicly available as the date approaches.
