Independent Study (IS) Guidelines for Parents

Independent Study allows students to keep up with their schoolwork while away from campus. It can be short-term (up to 15 total days per school year) or long-term (more than 15 days).

Short-Term Independent Study
(Up to 15 Total Days)
  • Uses your child’s current teacher’s Google Classroom for assignments.
  • Helps students stay on track while away for a short period.
  • First 3 days requested in the school year (cumulative) are automatically pre-approved.
  • Any additional days require administrative approval.
  • In order to receive positive attendance for short-term IS:
    1. Both the parent and student must sign the Independent Study Agreement.
    2. Student must complete Google Classroom assignments.
    3. Student must complete the Independent Study Log and obtain their teachers’ initials.
Long-Term Independent Study
(More than 15 Days)
  • Requires administrative approval.
  • Uses the Imagine Learning curriculum and instruction system instead of Google Classroom assignments.
  • Designed for extended absences while maintaining academic progress.
  • Attendance is based on percent of work completed through Imagine Learning
  • In order to receive positive attendance for long-term IS, both the parent and student must sign the Independent Study Agreement.
