Independent Study (IS) Guidelines for Parents
Independent Study allows students to keep up with their schoolwork while away from campus. It can be short-term (up to 15 total days per school year) or long-term (more than 15 days).
Short-Term Independent Study
(Up to 15 Total Days)
- Uses your child’s current teacher’s Google Classroom for assignments.
- Helps students stay on track while away for a short period.
- First 3 days requested in the school year (cumulative) are automatically pre-approved.
- Any additional days require administrative approval.
- In order to receive positive attendance for short-term IS:
- Both the parent and student must sign the Independent Study Agreement.
- Student must complete Google Classroom assignments.
- Student must complete the Independent Study Log and obtain their teachers’ initials.
Long-Term Independent Study
(More than 15 Days)
- Requires administrative approval.
- Uses the Imagine Learning curriculum and instruction system instead of Google Classroom assignments.
- Designed for extended absences while maintaining academic progress.
- Attendance is based on percent of work completed through Imagine Learning
- In order to receive positive attendance for long-term IS, both the parent and student must sign the Independent Study Agreement.
